Cloud is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution for SMEs, experts at Northdoor advise
04 October 2011
In association with the Cloud Industry Forum, Northdoor, the IT consultancy and solutions provider, is hosting a breakfast seminar on 6th October with a group of senior executives and business owners from around the London area.
Although cloud computing can provide significant benefits, Northdoor warns that it is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The seminar has therefore been arranged in order to dispel some of the hype around cloud computing, and also to help business owners make more informed decisions when planning their IT infrastructure.
Jon Milward, Director of Managed and Support Services, Northdoor, said:
“There are many compelling benefits of cloud computing, including cost reduction, increased agility, greater scalability, and more. Cloud computing also allows SMEs to respond quickly to any peaks and troughs in their business with much greater flexibility.”
Although cloud computing may seem a financially attractive model, Jon Milward also stresses that there are a number of costs, such as licensing, transition and connectivity, which aren’t immediately apparent, and which business owners will need to take into consideration.
Jon Milward, Director of Managed and Support Services, said: “Because of the high levels of scalability and flexibility that cloud computing can offer, its popularity will continue to soar. We estimate that over 80% of SMEs will move part if not all of their infrastructure and applications to the cloud by 2015. For companies that are willing to embrace this new way of working, we strongly encourage them to consider whether they have the resources and skills that they’ll need to select the right cloud computing vendor and manage this migration successfully.”
